What is Heartworm Disease?
Heartworm disease is transmitted through mosquito bites. When an infected mosquito bites your pet, it deposits heartworm larvae into the bloodstream. These larvae mature into worms that can grow up to 12 inches long and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other organs.
